The Member and Technical Services
Department is responsible for the following functions as stipulated in Sect. 4 of the NBAA
act:
Registration of New Members
To consider and decide upon
applications for registration and to effect registration of practicing accountants,
accountants in employment, accounting technicians and practicing firms, in accordance with
requirements of the Membership and Practicing By-Laws 1997.
To maintain registers of
Certified Public Accountants in Public Practice (CPA-PPs), Certified Public Accountants
(CPA's), Graduate Accountants (GA's) Approved Accountants (APs), Accounting Technicians
(ATs) and Practicing Firms (PFs).
Regulation of Members and
Firms
-
To regulate the activities and conduct of members and practicing firms in
accordancewith the Board's Code of Conduct and Ethics By-laws 1999.

Monitoring ethical behavior and adjudicating over cases involving indiscipline
through the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee. Administer an Audit Quality
Review Scheme for its 100 plus practicing Firms.
Develop
the Accounting Profession
The Department plays an
active role in public interest through its contributions to policy formulation in the
following areas:

Annual Budgetproposals to the Minister for Finance.

Banking, Finance and Industry

Taxation

Good Governance
-
Stock Exchange etc.

To sponsor, arrange and provide facilities for conferences, seminars, discussions
and consultations on matters relating to accountancy, auditing and allied
subjects.

Providing an opportunity for maintaining competence and updating members'
knowledge and skills through Continuing Professional Education (CPE)
programmes.
Issuance of Standards and
Guidelines

To promulgateand issue accountancy and auditing standards;

To ensure the compliance of these standards
and guidelines by members
